  Cast List (Virtually ALL roles may be played by boys or girls! Parts may be combined, or divided up to be adapted for smaller or larger groups)

Sergeant Joe Sabbath: “Serious” police detective in Bethlehem. Not mean, but takes his job seriously! Major role, with many lines in each scene.

Patrolman Rookie: A rookie peace officer. Younger. Over-eager and zealous. Wants to arrest everyone! Major role, in most scenes

Scoop: “Go-getter” newspaper reporter. Quick, bright, ambitious. Major part in several scenes.

Cub: Rookie “sidekick” reporter. Inquisitive, energetic. Major part in several scenes.

Shepherds:
A happy (“merry”) band. Joe thinks they are trouble-makers, but they are simply excited about the incredible events they have witnessed. Can be a small group or large group, depending on your needs. They appear in several scenes, but not a lot of lines. The following shepherds have speaking parts (though boys names, these can be girls or boys):

CD: (CD stands for “Camel Driver”): Stereotypical “big-rig” truck-driver type. Drives a “semi-camel.” Speaks with “trucker-drawl.” Major part in a single scene.

Seamstress: A few lines in one scene. British accent preferred.
Source 1: A few lines in one scene. Sources wear a nose and glasses “disguise.”
Source 2 and Source 3: One line each in one scene.
Traveler: A few lines in one scene.
Goat Napper: Has a goat caught “napping” during song. Has one line.
Person 1, Person 2, Person 3: One short line each in one scene.
Gabriel: Angel Gabriel in bright angel costume. Speaks one word.
Pita Chewer: Non-speaking.
Magi: Non-speaking, appear optionally in pantomime during a song.
Mary: Non-speaking.
Joseph: Non-speaking.
